Wild Nutrition Case Study: Sustainable Ecommerce Packaging with BreezeCrashlock®

Deborah Lill |

Wild Nutrition is a women’s health brand with a mission to do supplements differently. Founded around the belief that nutrition should work with the body rather than against it, Wild Nutrition developed its Food-Grown® approach, combining carefully selected nutrients with a food system to create supplements designed with absorption and quality in mind.

Today, Wild Nutrition supports women through different stages of life with a range of science-led nutritional products. Alongside its focus on women's health and wellbeing, the brand is also committed to making more considered choices for the environment.

As the business continued to grow, Wild Nutrition was looking for a new packaging solution that better aligned with these values. Its existing 0427 pizza-style boxes were functional, but the business wanted to move towards more sustainable ecommerce packaging while also introducing branded packaging to better reflect the Wild Nutrition brand.

Understanding the Challenge: Balancing Brand Impact with Sustainable Ecommerce Packaging

Wild Nutrition approached Lil Packaging looking for a more sustainable ecommerce packaging solution.

The business was using 0427 pizza-style boxes, which were unprinted. As part of its search for an alternative, Wild Nutrition initially requested quotations for three sizes of printed envelopes.

The move wasn't simply about changing the format of the packaging. Wild Nutrition wanted a solution that would support its sustainability goals while working effectively for its fulfilment operation.

There was also an opportunity to improve the presentation of its orders. Moving away from unprinted packaging would allow Wild Nutrition to bring its branding into the sustainable ecommerce packaging and create a more considered customer experience.

After understanding what Wild Nutrition was looking to achieve, Lil introduced the team to BreezeCrashlock® as an alternative solution.

Crafting the Sustainable Packaging Solution

Wild Nutrition chose BreezeCrashlock® boxes in Small and Medium sizes.

BreezeCrashlock® combines a crashlock box construction with Lil's integrated Breezepaper® retention system. The Breezepaper® wraps around the product inside the box, helping to hold it securely in place during transit and removing the need for additional void fill.

The solution provided Wild Nutrition with sustainable ecommerce packaging while also offering the product protection needed for its fulfilment operation.

The boxes were also printed, giving Wild Nutrition the opportunity to move away from its previous unprinted packaging and bring the brand into the delivery experience.

This created an additional benefit: a more considered unboxing experience for the customer. Rather than opening an unprinted box, customers receive packaging that reflects the Wild Nutrition brand from the moment their order arrives.

The sustainable ecommerce packaging is FSC®-certified, supporting Wild Nutrition's focus on making more considered packaging choices.

The Outcome

Wild Nutrition made the move from its existing 0427 pizza-style boxes to BreezeCrashlock®.

To support the transition and ongoing fulfilment requirements, Lil Packaging provides stock holding with weekly deliveries. This gives Wild Nutrition a consistent supply of sustainable ecommerce packaging while supporting the pace of its fulfilment operation.

The switch has also given Wild Nutrition a packaging solution that brings several requirements together: sustainable ecommerce packaging, secure product retention and branded presentation.

The printed BreezeCrashlock® boxes have added another dimension to the customer journey too, turning the packaging itself into part of the unboxing experience.

For Lil Packaging, the project demonstrates the value of looking beyond the initial packaging request. Wild Nutrition approached Lil looking for sustainable ecommerce packaging and initially asked for printed envelopes. By understanding the wider requirements, Lil was able to introduce an alternative that offered product protection, branding and a more considered customer experience in one solution.
